Can non-prescribing staff send prescriptions on the behalf of prescribers?

Yes, non-prescribing staff can send a medication order on the behalf of a prescriber.

Here's how:

  1. Open a patient's chart and add the prescribe command to a new or existing note

  2. Complete fields within the prescribe command

  3. Select the prescriber

  4. Click the "Review" button

  5. Click "Sign and Send" to process the prescription

The prescription will be sent on the behalf of the provider selected in the prescriber field.

The prescriber must be enrolled following the steps outlined in New Provider Onboarding.

Canvas does not stop any user from sending prescription orders unless additional Prescribing Restrictions are set.
